Achievements(2023-24)
The department of Ophthalmology was registered for Eye banking, Retrieval and corneal transplantation under the
Human organ transplantation ac
t after a period of 2 years. Since then corneal transplantation was resumed out of which 2 DSAEKS (Descemets stripping endothelial transplantation)were performed in which instead of transplanting the whole cornea only the endothelial layer is transplanted thereby facilitating faster rehabilitation of vision. Limbal epithelial transplantation was done in a young boy who had suffered chemical injury thereby restoring vision. All these procedures done at higher centres at a high cost were provided free of cost.
NMC inspection was held successfully for the post graduate recognition of the department and upgradation of pg seats.
Procurement of high end equipment was done for the department which included 2 Topcon microscopes with high definition recording, 2 Legion phaco emulsification machines with advanced operational ability thus facilitating faster surgeries, increasing the quantity as well as quality of surgery.
