ACADEMIC ACTIVITIES

Department fully understands the importance of CME’s and interactive conferencing in honing the capabilities of its manpower and has always taken keen interest in organizing conferences, patient care camps, CME’s.

Conferences /CME’s /Patient Care Camps Organized

  • National Science Day 2019: It was celebrated on 23rd February 2019. The series of lectures, presentations and essay competition was conducted which concluded with the prize distribution ceremony. Actually it was a part of National science week celebrations which is celebrated in the last week of February throughout the country.
  • World Diabetes Day and CME 2018: CME and free investigative camp was held on 14th November 2018. CME was conferred 04 credit points accredited by J&K state medical council.
  • World Diabetes day 2017: In which free investigation camp was organised on 14th November 2017.
  • BIOCME- 2015 (9th-10th May 2015): A two day national conference was organized under  aegis of north zone Association of Clinical Biochemists of India (ACBI) & Indian Society of Lead Awareness and Research (InSLAR) on theme “Advances in biochemical & molecular diagnostics: recent research trends”. The academic feast was attended by around two hundred delegates. Significantly, InSLAR executive decided state referral centre for lead analysis would be set up at Govt. Medical College & associated SMHS hospital, Srinagar.
  • One day state level seminar on 27th May 2016 on the theme Vitamin D Deficiency: A silent Pandemic –Causes & Consequences, ~ 500 delegates participated.
  • Cervical cancer awareness generation cum screening camps (2013-2015): Funded by DBT –GOI. Eighteen such mega camps were organized in collaboration with Deptt. of Gynea & Obstetrics GMC srinagar (Lal Ded hospital), SKIMS Medical College Bemina and Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir. Around 2000 motivated women were provided free screening for cervical cancer. PAP test, HPV-DNA along with pelvic examination and colposcopy if needed was provided. HPV DNA testing in urine a non-invasive process was established as first line screening test for mass cervical cancer screening programmes.]
  • One day CME in May 2013: It was conducted on the theme On “Research Opportunities in Free Radical Biology and Medicine”
  • Two day Workshop and free investigative camp in November 2009: On “Immunological Techniques and their Diagnostic Role”. Around 2000 free sophisticated investigations including, thyroid profile, autoimmune profile, lipid profile, tumor markers, and reproductive endocrinology were provided to patients
  • A state wide seminar in December 2007: A state wide seminar on “Recombinant DNA Technology and its role in Medicine” was conducted by the department which completed successfully.

 

 

Journal clubs

Comprehensive teaching & training program is the routine feature of the Department  and is held once weekly.

Training

There is an active participation of the faculty members in attending various conferences/ CMEs & workshops both in and outside the state.

  • Training programme for quality control managers cum internal auditors as per ISO 15189:2012 for NABL accreditation of labs in 2015: It was organised from 11th - 14th May 2015. Around 20 participants including faculty and Technical staff of Deptt. Of Biochemisty Govt Medical College Sgr. were trained as quality control managers.
  • Roohi Ashraf was deputed to attend workshop on “Advances in Genomics, Bioinformatics & Animal Cell Culture Technology” organized by Division of Biotechnology SKUAST-K, sponsored by DBT-MoST, New Delhi for a period of 21 days from 10th August 2015 to 31st August 2015.
  • This department strongly encourages and guides research scholars to attend national and international conferences. As an appreciable and inspiring first time development in this department Ms. Rabiya Farooq, Research Scholar Deptt of Biochemistry GMC, has managed to get research travel grant from ICMR (01 lac) to attend 9th Global Summit & Expo on Vaccines & Vaccination-2015, San-Francisco, USA from 30th Nov to 2nd Dec 2015 wherein she presented a paper on “Prospective tumor suppressor gene in colorectal cancer”.
  • Number of faculty members and research scholars attended International Conference on “Cellular and Molecular Mechanisms of Disease Processes 2014” organized by Department of Biotechnology, University of Kashmir, Hazratbal Srinagar from 13th –16th April 2014.
  • Many faculty members and research scholars attended “International 101st Indian Science Congress” organized by University of Jammu and Indian Science Congress association Kolkata from 3rd – 7th February 2014.
  • Participation in national conferences of ACBI, IABS, RSSDI and IACR by the faculty members of the department is a routine process.
