Department of Endocrinology, GMC Srinagar Organises 2nd Annual International MMFDIA CON-2026 Obesity Summit
The Department of Endocrinology, Government Medical College Srinagar, in collaboration with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies on Ageing and Moul Mouj Foundation, successfully organised the 2nd Annual International MMFDIA CON-2026, an Interdisciplinary Conference and Obesity Summit, at Government Dental College, Srinagar.
The conference brought together leading national and international specialists, academicians and healthcare professionals to deliberate on the growing burden of obesity and its associated endocrine, metabolic and cardiovascular complications.
The inaugural ceremony began with a welcome address by Dr M. Hayat Bhat, Organising Chairman and Head of the Department of Endocrinology, while Dr Zubair Saleem, Organising Secretary, delivered the opening remarks.
Distinguished guests included Prof. Dr Maria Banas, Professor of Endocrinology at the Centre for Postgraduate Medical Education, Warsaw, Poland, Prof. Dr Abdul Hamid Zargar, renowned Endocrinologist and Chairman of the Centre for Diabetes and Endocrine Care, Srinagar, and Prof. Dr John Ebenezer, Padma Shri and Dr B. C. Roy Award recipient and distinguished Geriatric Orthopaedic Surgeon from Bengaluru.
Prof. Dr Sandeep Kaur Bali, Principal and Dean, Government Dental College and Hospital, Srinagar, highlighted the importance of academic collaboration and multidisciplinary healthcare.
The Chief Guest Address was delivered by Prof. Dr Iffat Hassan Shah, Principal and Dean, Government Medical College and Associated Hospitals, Srinagar.
The inaugural programme also featured the felicitation of distinguished guests and the release of the MMF Impact Report. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Dr M. Shahnawaz, Co-Organising Chairman.
The scientific programme commenced with an introduction by Dr M. Hayat Bhat, followed by the MMF Signature Lecture, Mouj Special, delivered by Dr Tajamul H. Mir.
A distinguished panel of national and international experts participated in the scientific deliberations, covering important topics including the Indian obesity scenario, cardiometabolic complications, genetics and gut hormones, psychiatric and behavioural aspects of obesity, MASLD, lifestyle and medical management, newer therapeutic options, GLP-1 receptor agonists, Tirzepatide, obstructive sleep apnoea and bariatric surgery.
The academic sessions were guided by eminent chairpersons and moderators from Government Medical College Srinagar and other leading institutions.
The conference concluded with a strong emphasis on the need for a comprehensive and patient-centred approach to obesity management, focusing on prevention, lifestyle modification, nutritional guidance, behavioural and psychological support, appropriate medical treatment and bariatric surgery when clinically indicated.
