GMC Srinagar and Associated Hospitals Celebrate 80th Independence Day with Patriotic Fervour

Government Medical College Srinagar and its associated hospitals, nursing and paramedical institutions celebrated the 80th Independence Day of India with patriotic fervour, dignity and enthusiasm. The occasion brought together the wider institutional family to honour the sacrifices of the freedom fighters and reaffirm its commitment to public service and nation building.

The main function was held at Government Medical College Srinagar, where the National Flag was unfurled by Principal and Dean, Prof. (Dr.) Iffat Hassan Shah, in the presence of Administrator, Sh. Gulzar Ahmad Bhat, JKAS. The ceremony was attended by officers, faculty members, doctors, staff and other employees, who came together to mark the historic occasion and pay tribute to those whose courage and sacrifices paved the way for an independent India.

Addressing the gathering, the Principal and Dean said that Independence Day is not only a celebration of the country's freedom but also an opportunity to reflect upon the responsibilities that come with it. She emphasised that the true spirit of independence is reflected through honest service, compassion, dedication and a strong sense of responsibility towards society.

The celebrations also highlighted the vital role of healthcare and educational institutions in nation building. GMC Srinagar and its associated hospitals reiterated their commitment to quality healthcare, professional education and compassionate public service while upholding the values of integrity, discipline and dedication.

The occasion witnessed participation from the wider GMC Srinagar family, including its associated hospitals, Government College of Nursing and Paramedical Sciences, Dewan Bagh, Srinagar, Government Nursing College Khanpora Budgam and Government AMT School, Dewan Bagh, Srinagar. The participation of officers and employees from different cadres reflected the collective contribution of every section of the institution towards healthcare delivery, education and essential public services.

Heads of Departments, senior faculty members, Professors, Associate Professors, Assistant Professors, Chief Accounts Officer, Personnel Officer, Medical Superintendents, Deputy Medical Superintendents, Medical Officers, Accounts Officers, paramedical staff, ministerial staff, technical staff, sanitation staff and other employees participated in the celebrations. Their presence underscored the importance of teamwork and the contribution of every individual in ensuring the smooth functioning of the institutions.

The spirit of Independence Day was also reflected across the associated hospitals of GMC Srinagar, where the National Flag was unfurled at their respective headquarters. Celebrations were held at SMHS Hospital, Super Speciality Hospital Srinagar, Lalla Ded Hospital, Children Hospital, Chest Diseases Hospital, Bone and Joint Hospital, Psychiatric Diseases Hospital, Kashmir Nursing Home and Sub District Hospital Hazratbal. The nursing and paramedical institutions at Dewan Bagh and Khanpora, Budgam also joined the celebrations with enthusiasm and patriotic pride.

With the Tricolour flying proudly across the campuses, the celebrations served as a reminder that the freedom secured through the sacrifices of countless men and women carries with it a responsibility to serve the nation with sincerity and commitment. For the GMC Srinagar family, this responsibility is reflected every day through patient care, education and training of future healthcare professionals, support for essential services and dedicated efforts towards the welfare of the community.
